How does an inter-state mover operate?
Due to various reasons, people have to move to different locations. Modern lifestyles demand people move even from a state to state. No matter if it is due to occupation, education, business or any other reason – moving to another state can be a challenging task for many individuals and this is when moving companies come into play. It is always better to know the way these movers operate; it can be advantageous for you when selecting an interstate mover next time.
The process starts with customer’s inquiry. Basically, the customer contacts the company and explains the requirement. The respective interstate moving company then sends a representative to make a complete inspection on-site. This particular representative will then take a count of all the items that should be moved and work on an estimate. This is a very important part of the process as it allows the customer to be ready with the budget. Then, the moving company will offer the customer a comprehensive moving quote.
Aspects like barriers to unloading or loading may directly influence the amount mentioned in the quotation. Therefore, as a responsible customer, you must share all the potential barriers with the representative and avoid last minute surprises. Flight of stairs, elevators, inadequate parking faculties and narrow hallways are potential burdens your mover may come across; such burdens may convert into additional charges by the mover. So, be sure to inform all the possibilities to your mover beforehand.
After the inspection process, the customer (you) will receive the quote. Depending on the company, the quote may be either binding or not binding.
- Binding quote
When a particular quote is issued on binding quote basis, a fixed rate will be determined on the moving. The rate may not change even if the weight of the load changed.
- Non-binding quote
Non-binding quote is more flexible. The moving company has the freedom to add or reduce amounts to the total bill.
Note: Although non-binding quote is flexible, the chances for surprises are more with it. Therefore, many customers prefer to go for a binding quote.
The next step is to start loading. Moving company staff will reach your residence (or the office) 1 or 2 days before (depending on the task) the moving day and start packing. They will use boxes and crates accordingly. Fragile items, valuable and items like TV sets will be packed using special precautions and materials. An inventory check list will be used by them and you will have to sign it after the packing process. Jewelries, artifacts, paintings and other precious items will be given special attention.
Generally, moving companies have basic level insurance coverage. However, if you wish, you can upgrade the insurance policy considering the value of the goods you need to move. Once the inventory is completed, the goods will be loaded into the moving truck and start moving towards the new location. At the destination, the goods will be unloaded safely to end the process.
